We are so happy to offer another summer of pre-professional art experiences for your children. Please note that our Summer Arts Academy is held on the LIHSA campus, but registration is through Hofstra University.

Music Scholarships
The Joel Foundation has generously donated 4-week scholarships for 15 students to attend LIHSA’s Summer Arts Academy. All students in grades 8-11 attending the Music & Musical Theatre programs are encouraged to apply. Application deadline is Friday, May 9th.
SUMMER ARTS ACADEMY COURSE OFFERINGS
TECHNICAL THEATRE,
FILM & TV
A0205: Film Techniques Concept to Creation: Grades 7-12
Session 1 (June 30 – July 11) *No Class on 7/4*
Minimum: 8 students
Maximum: 20 students
Participants will work as a team to bring a film creation to life in just two weeks! The “crew” will explore the elements of
professional filmmaking from start to finish, including storyboarding, pre-production, production, and post-production.
Families and friends will be invited to a film screening at the end of the course showcasing the final project, which will
also feature a post-film discussion with the filmmakers. Family and friends are invited to attend the culminating film
festival on July 11th at 1:00 pm.
Set Design & Construction: Grades 7-12
Session 2 (July 14 – July 25)
Minimum: 4 students
Maximum: 10 students
In this hands-on course, participants will learn how to create a scenic design, read draftings, create cut-lists, use a variety of power tools, and do basic scenic painting. During this 2-week course, the entire set for the LIHSA Summer Arts Academy musical will be designed and built for the show on July 25th.
THEATRE PERFORMANCE & ACTING
Musical Theatre Production: Grades 8-12
Sessions 1 & 2 (June 30 – July 25) *No Class on 7/4*
Minimum: 6 students
Maximum: 26 students
LIHSA’s Musical Theatre Production will offer aspiring young actors a one-of-a-kind opportunity to develop their skills as triple threat performers while performing in a fully-produced musical. This program allows students the opportunity to become involved in all aspects of a musical theatre production including auditions, rehearsals, blocking, choreography, and ensemble work which culminate in a final performance. Our 4-Week program is designed for individuals with varied levels of singing and movement ability who want to elevate their existing talent while making lifelong friends from all over Long Island. Family and friends are invited to attend the culminating performance on July 25th at 12:00 pm.
Jr. Musical Theatre Production: Grades 2-7
Session 1 (June 30 – July 11) *No Class on 7/4*
Minimum: 6 students
Maximum: 25 students
This two-week course is for students who are new to Musical Theatre Performance and want to experience
classes in theatre, dance, and vocal music with industry professionals. This is a perfect opportunity for young
actors to develop their skills and prepare for next year’s audition season. Students will participate in master
classes ranging from acting, vocal techniques, and dance basics while learning choreography and music for a
musical revue. This course is designed for students of all talents and performance levels who want to build their
resumes and work with the best on Long Island. Family and friends are invited to attend the culminating
performance on July 11th at 12:00 pm.
DANCE
A104: Broadway Theatre Dance: Grades 8-12
Session 1 (June 30 – July 11) *No Class on 7/4*
Minimum: 8 students
Maximum: 20 students
Did you ever want to step into the shoes of a dancer from a Broadway musical? Participants will learn strong technique in jazz
fundamentals as well as choreography derived from various Broadway styles. The program will conclude with a performance for
family and friends. Family and friends are invited to attend the culminating performance on July 11th at 2:00 pm.
Jr. Broadway Theatre Dance: Grades 2-7
Session 2 (July 14 – July 25)
Minimum: 8 students
Maximum: 20 students
This two-week course is for students who are new to Broadway style dance and want to experience
classes working with industry professionals. This is a perfect opportunity for young dancers to
develop their skills. The program will conclude with a performance for family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend the culminating performance on July 24th at 1:00 pm.
VISUAL ART
A0307: Fundamentals of Visual Art: Grades 7-12
Session 1 (June 30 – July 11) *No Class on 7/4*
Minimum: 8 students
Maximum: 20 students
With the instruction of professional artists, participants will use the tools and equipment in the LIHSA fine arts studios to design and make their own functional objects or works of artistic expression.
A0315: Mixed Media Arts : Grades 7-12
Session 2 (July 14 – July 25)
Minimum: 8 students
Maximum: 20 students
Participants are welcome at any level for a workshop of mixed media art making using a variety of materials, including paint, cloth, paper, wood and found objects or imagery. Contemporary and classical concepts techniques and fundamentals will be considered and utilized to create collages, sculptures and other works of original art. The limitless possibilities of mixed media can amass visual experience and self-expression and develop one’s own voice.
MEDIA ARTS
Animated Storytelling: Grades 7-12
Session 1 (June 30 – July 11) *No Class on 7/4*
Minimum: 8 students
Maximum: 20 students
In this dynamic two-week course, students will delve into the exciting world of storytelling through the
creation of animated short films. Participants will focus on character development and narrative techniques,
exploring both 2D and 3D methods. They’ll experiment with key approaches such as pose-to -pose character
movements, morphing, write-on, and loopable cycles. By the end of the course, students will have produced a
fully conceptualized and polished animated short film, blending their artistic vision with technical skills to bring
their stories to life.
MUSIC
A00501: The Art of the Band 7-12
Session 1 (June 30 – July 11) *No Class on 7/4*
Minimum: 8 students
Maximum: 20 students
Participants will learn about various amateur and professional bands and rehearse covers of and create original songs.
Students interested in this course should already play an instrument and be able to understand the basics of reading music.
This course will culminate in a live performance on July 11th at 1:00 pm.
A00501: Studio Recording and Production 7-12
Session 2 (July 14 – July 25)
Minimum: 8 students
Maximum: 20 students
Participants will learn about various amateur and professional music recording and production options and get the opportunity
to record their own compositions. This hands on program highlights audio software options, microphones, effects and how to
get the perfect sound, even at home. A visit to a professional recording studio on Long Island will provide an up-close look as to
how professional musicians get the right sound.
