Andrew Defrin

February 18, 2022

This week, Andrew Defrin, a senior from Roslyn spent time time with Ms. Giglio Pac to share his current creative projects.

Nearly two years ago, Andrew wrote a play called The Guest. It evolved from an independent study project  he conducted with Mr. Segal, his English Teacher at Roslyn High School, where he focused on playwriting. After working through some writing exercises, an idea came to him and his one act play was born. Last May, the school conducted a table reading and those five actors will reunite this spring for a one-night-only performance at Roslyn High School in June.  The play is also competing at the National Thespian Festival. Andrew has really enjoyed the rewriting process for the play, and especially seeing the progression from the original to where it’s come so far. He expects further revisions to be put in place when rehearsals begin for the June performance and he gets the opportunity to see it come to life and hear the dialogue spoken on stage. Andrew thoughtfully reflects on this natural process of theater pieces evolving, “Every piece of theater ever changing, it can always be adapted in different ways.”

Other cool happenings: Andrew is also looking forward to being in his senior year musical Big Fish at Roslyn High School this Spring. And, of course, getting through the college process and making a decision.  Break a leg, Andrew!
