Portfolio Review Night at the Heckscher Fall 2024

The Heckscher Museum of Art offered their annual art portfolio review event for high school students in October.  This event featured representatives from Adelphi University, California College of the Arts (CCA),Maine College of Art and Design (MECA), Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), Massachusetts College of Art and Design, New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), Parsons School of Design at The New School, Ringling College of Art and Design, School of The Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University, and St. John’s University.  This event allows students who are serious about attending college for fine arts an opportunity to get portfolio feedback from admissions counselors.

Domingo Vega-Hernandez, from Locust Valley, is an 11th grader but attended the event because he wanted to learn more about Ringling College of Art and Design.  He shared his sketchbook and figure drawings he developed during his time at LIHSA.  He is taking the feedback and looking for ways to improve his work so that he is prepared for college applications next year. Domingo shared, “All advice -negative, positive, wrong, right – all perspective can improve you as a person.”

Alex Crane, from Half Hollow Hill, Janice Lee, from Syosset High School, and Nicole Zawojski, from Bethpage High School are seniors who attended the event and shared that meeting with top colleges and getting their feedback was very important to them.  They received feedback and were able to engage in conversations about programs and pathways the colleges offer as well as targeted feedback about what colleges are looking for in their portfolios.
