Stage the Change 2024
On Friday, November 15th, students from Long Island High School for the Arts attended the Stage the Change Conference at the Tilles Center, an event designed to ignite creativity and passion in high school students. The conference featured hands-on workshops, dynamic live performances, and inspiring guest speakers. At the forefront, students had the opportunity to explore how the arts can be a powerful tool for social change.
LIHSA students participated in two enriching workshops, each designed to expand their artistic skills while addressing important issues. Workshops included Feminism on the Stage with Catherine Weingarten, Moment Work with Brandon Anderson of Tectonic Theater Company, and Resilient Voices Finding Space with Theara J. Ward. Dance students also participated in Dance for Every Body with Dani Criss from Urban Bush Women.
A highlight of the event was the keynote address by Kristin Chenoweth, the Emmy® and Tony® Award-winning actress and singer. Chenoweth shared her journey and emphasized the impact of using art to express important societal messages. Her insights inspired students to pursue their dreams and use their voices for positive change.
AM LIHSA dance students were selected to perform in the Opening Ceremony. They performed One Harmony, Many Notes, an abstract modern dance piece choreographed by dance students and their teacher, Natalie L’Etoile. The piece symbolized diverse individuals coming together within a unified group, with each dancer’s unique voice contributing to a shared truth. The performance was a powerful expression of unity and creativity, setting the tone for the day’s inspiring events.
Congratulations to all of the AM Dancers! LIHSA is proud to attend Stage the Change annually and we look forward to a continued partnership! Keep scrolling for more photos
