Outstanding Senior: Luke Bergin
A Creative Journey: Luke Bergin’s Path to Packaging Design
Meet Luke Bergin, a young artist from Carle Place who’s carving out his own path in the world of graphic design. As a dedicated member of the Visual Arts department at the Long Island High School for the Arts, Luke has found his true passion by combining his love for creativity with his future aspirations.
Why did Luke choose LIHSA? He shares, “I wanted to find a way to further incorporate my passion into my life and education.” His drive to push his creative boundaries is what motivates him every day. But art isn’t just about passion for Luke—it’s also about dedication. “I’ve learned that my industry is very competitive, and that I will have to work as hard as I can,” he says.
One of the projects closest to Luke’s heart is his AP art portfolio, a personal collection of works that he continues to build upon. His portfolio is not just a reflection of his skills, but also of his growth. “This project is my opportunity to explore myself through my art,” Luke explains.
As Luke works toward his goal of becoming a packaging designer, he’s focused on his next step: attending college for graphic design. And he’s not slowing down anytime soon. In fact, he’s been invited to compete in the SkillsUSA regionals this March, a prestigious graphic design competition that will test his skills even further.
For future LIHSA students, Luke offers some valuable advice: “Study for art history. Don’t get lazy after you get accepted into college, continue to work.” This mindset is what will help Luke thrive in the competitive world of art and design.
In 10 years, Luke hopes to have a successful career in packaging design. And with his drive, dedication, and natural talent, there’s no doubt that he will make it happen. After all, art is not just a passion for him—it’s his future.
Luke’s journey reminds us all that arts education isn’t just about creating; it’s about shaping the future.
