Outstanding Senior Ollie Mauer
Oliver Mauer, a senior at Half Hollow Hills High School West, is making his mark in the world of musical theatre. With a focus on refining his craft, Ollie has embraced every opportunity at LIHSA to grow as an artist and prepare for his future.
Ollie shares he chose LIHSA for its specialized performing arts program, which offers a robust education in technique. “LIHSA allows me to focus on musical theatre and develop the skills I need for a future in the arts,” Ollie says. “The environment is designed for students to grow and explore their creative potential.”
Through his two year at LIHSA, Ollie has learned valuable lessons about the entertainment industry. “One key takeaway is the importance of being versatile,” he explains. “In this field, you need to be able to take on different roles and adapt to various styles. LIHSA has given me the tools to do just that, and I feel more prepared for what comes next.”
The LIHSA community saw Ollie’s versatility in the fall production of Urinetown the Musical. It was a standout experience for Ollie where embraced the challenge of playing Caldwell B. Cladwell, a corrupt businessman. “It’s been an incredible experience,” Ollie says. “Urinetown addresses themes like corporate greed and environmental issues, and it feels especially relevant today. I’m grateful to work with director Chris Brick, who brings a unique vision to each character.”
After graduation, Ollie plans to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in musical theatre at a four-year university. “I want to keep developing as a performer and eventually work in professional theatre,” he says. “A BFA will give me the foundation to take that next step.”
When reflecting on his time at LIHSA, Ollie advises future LIHSA students to embrace every opportunity. “Every class is valuable, whether it’s a technical lesson or a career management session. I’ve learned something new in every class that’s helped me grow as an artist.”
We can’t wait to see what Ollie does next!
