Outstanding Senior Tali Goldwasser
Tali Goldwasser, a student at Hewlett High School, has dedicated her high school years to honing her craft in the world of musical theatre. As a Musical Theatre at Long Island High School for the Arts for the past four years, Tali has embraced every opportunity to grow as a performer, all while setting her sights on a future in the theatre industry.
Tali chose to attend LIHSA in her freshman year because she wanted to immerse herself in an environment that would nurture her artistic development. “I knew I wanted a career in theatre, and I thought going to a school that would foster my growth as a performer would be an important step to setting me up for my future,” Tali explains. Over the years, she has not only developed her skills but has also discovered more about who she is as an artist and what she wants to achieve in her career.
One of the most valuable lessons Tali has learned during her time at LIHSA is the importance of being open to learning from both successes and setbacks. “LIHSA is the perfect place to grow and experiment as an artist,” she says. “Don’t be afraid of falling on your face or your voice cracking because we are all here to learn, not to be perfect.” This mindset has helped Tali navigate the challenges of performing while fostering her confidence.
This fall, Tali plans to pursue a BFA in musical theatre. She is eager to enter the professional world of theatre, auditioning for musicals, plays, cabaret shows, and television. Her experiences at LIHSA, including performing in front of accomplished guest artists and teachers, have provided a strong foundation for the next step in her career.
This past fall, she played Velma Kelly in her school’s production of Chicago, a role she had always dreamed of performing. “It was the best performance experience I ever had,” Tali reflects, noting that it reaffirmed her love for the stage. She also has experience providing background vocals for several albums, including Look for the Good by Jason Mraz and Ziggy Stardub by the Easy Star All Stars.
For future LIHSA students, Tali offers this advice: “Be present so you can absorb all the amazing knowledge thrown your way. The teachers and guest artists at LIHSA have so much experience to share, which will definitely be useful for our futures.”
As Tali continues to pursue her dreams in the arts, she remains focused on her goal of building a long-lasting career in theatre, driven by the skills and insights she has gained at LIHSA.
