Ashlee Fucarino: A Rising Star from Long Island High School for the Arts
Ashlee Fucarino (Wantagh High School), a dedicated Musical Theatre major at Long Island High School for the Arts, has been named the recipient of the prestigious Long Island Arts Alliance Scholar Artist Merit Award for Theatre. This award recognizes Ashlee for her exceptional artistry and academic excellence, a combination that has helped her excel in both the classroom and on stage.
For Ashlee, receiving this award is both a validation of her hard work and a reminder that she’s on the right path. “To be recognized for something that I work so hard at every day is really special to me,” Ashlee shares. “Since this is what I want to do for the rest of my life, receiving this honor makes me feel as though I am on the right path, which is so rewarding.”
She describes her time at LIHSA as transformative. “LIHSA has changed my life,” she says, reflecting on her experiences. “From performing at Radio City Music Hall to working with Broadway professionals, the opportunities here have been incredible.” Ashlee has participated in full-scale musical productions such as The Who’s Tommy and Big Shot, workshops with industry professionals, and even had the chance to perform at the Tilles Center before a National Tour of Jesus Christ Superstar.
But it’s not just about the performances. The LIHSA community has played a pivotal role in Ashlee’s development. “I feel like I’ve built lifelong friendships and mentorships,” she explains, crediting her peers and teachers with helping her grow both as a person and as a performer.
One mentor who stands out is Chris Brick, Ashlee’s Musical Theatre instructor. “Chris is more than just a teacher—he’s a mentor who inspires me every single day,” Ashlee says. His guidance, along with tremendous support from Wantagh High School’s faculty, helped Ashlee secure the Roger Rees Award for Outstanding Performer, which led to her participation in the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (Jimmy Awards), a dream of hers since fifth grade.
Looking ahead, Ashlee plans to pursue a BFA in Musical Theatre and hopes to perform professionally while remaining connected to LIHSA. “In 10 years, I see myself on stage and back at alumni events,” she says.
Ashlee’s journey is just beginning and we are proud to have her with us at LIHSA. Keep scrolling for photos
