Audio Engineering Society Convention Oct 2024
Both first- and second-year Audio Production students attended the Audio Engineering Society Convention at Jacob Javits Center on October 9, 2024. This annual event unites over 10,000 audio professionals and exhibitors from around the world.
The goal of the show is to provide a platform for collaboration, discovery and learning between industry professionals. It was a great opportunity for LIHSA students to participate and network, not only with industry professionals, but with each other. Both Ameah Munlin 1st year AM Audio student from Merrick-Bellmore and Mekiah McClain, 2nd year PM Audio student from Roosevelt, shared how happy they were to meet students from the other class who have similar interests and goals. Ameah shared “I loved to learn all this new audio related information, but the best part of the trip was that we were brought together with the other class and new friendships were formed.”
Nicole Tourt, LIHSA’s Audio Production teacher, was proud when walking by exhibits and seeing her students not only touching and using the equipment, but hearing them interact with the exhibitors. “They represented LIHSA in such a positive way. They were professional and eager to learn.” Students Bradley Gonzalez, from North Shore, and Sofia Mayvaldov, from Hewlett-Woodmere, shared the same excitement about being able to use the equipment and speak with industry professionals.
The highlight of the day for Deer Park student, Kevin Phelan, was to see the John Lennon Bus on what would have been John Lennon’s 84th birthday.
When reflecting on the trip in class the next day, the same two exhibits kept coming up as favorites. One was an AI piano that created a hologram of the player’s hands in real time as students were playing. The hologram was displayed on a screen which is an amazing tool for teaching and learning piano. Students were also impressed by the Telefunken microphones. They were initially drawn to their booth because of their classic Volkswagen bus, but they stayed when they realized they could handle and use $10,000 microphones.
Overall, it was a great learning experience and a fun day for the audio students.
