Celebrating Riley Wood: Long Island Arts Alliance Scholar Artist Award Winner

Meet Riley Wood, a standout student at the Long Island High School for the Arts, who has recently earned the prestigious Long Island Arts Alliance Scholar Artist Award in Media Arts. Hailing from Wantagh High School, Riley has dedicated years to the craft of filmmaking and this prestigious award is a testament to his talent, hard work, and passion for the art.

Riley is currently studying Multimedia Film & TV at LIHSA, under the guidance of Robyn Morgan where he has learned storytelling through film. “To be named a Scholar Artist means that it has all been worth it,” Riley reflects. “Though I never fully doubted my potential for a future in filmmaking, this moment showed me that I can truly make it. Everything I have written, acted in, and directed over the past 11 years has finally meant something.”

Riley’s experience at LIHSA has been exciting and meaningful. “The biggest highlight has definitely been the access to professional-grade equipment and software that allow me and my friends to create projects we could only dream of before,” he shared. “This is exactly why I chose LIHSA—to pursue my art in an environment that encourages creativity and innovation.”

The impact LIHSA has had on Riley cannot be overstated. “LIHSA has allowed me to fully embrace my passion for filmmaking. The lessons, the equipment, and the software provided here have significantly enhanced my skills,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of this CTE program. Riley credits the supportive LIHSA environment fostered by teachers like Robyn Morgan and Erik Chocianowski, along with his peers for developing his skills. “These educators have given me the tools I needed to improve and refine my work, helping me grow as a filmmaker,” Riley shared.

He also expresses gratitude for the LIHSA community, “I wouldn’t be here without my family, friends, and peers. Their unwavering encouragement has fueled my passion for storytelling.”

Riley envisions a career behind the camera and directing scenes for films. “For almost six years, I have been developing a story, a world, and a universe I dream of bringing to the big screen. That has been my passion for as long as I can remember,” he reflected with enthusiasm.  “I want to create stories that endure long after I’m gone. I may be forgotten, but I don’t want my stories to fade away. I hope they live on, inspiring others,” he expressed.

As Riley prepares for graduation, he has his sights set on several competitive film programs, including NYU, SCAD, and Pace. “I want to delve deeper into filmmaking, screenwriting, and directing. Turning my dreams into reality.”

Riley Wood’s journey is just beginning and with his remarkable talent and clear vision, there’s no doubt he is destined for success.
