LIHSA Students Attend NYSTEA Conference 2025!

From January 9-11, 2025, 14 second-year seniors from the Long Island High School for the Arts had the incredible opportunity to attend the New York State Theatre Education Association Student Conference in the picturesque Catskills. The event brought together 879 students, along with over 100 sponsors, chaperones, and workshop facilitators, for a dynamic 3-day event filled with theatre classes, performances, and memorable activities.

LIHSA students dove into techniques like stage combat, improvisation, sketch comedy, ballroom dance, tap, and voice techniques, each workshop offering a unique opportunity for growth and creativity. In addition to their artistic training, students were able to unwind with options like swimming, snow tubing, and enjoying a lively bonfire. There were also opportunities to sing around the piano and even enjoy some time on bounce houses!

One of the highlights of the weekend was the Saturday night banquet, themed “Over the Rainbow: Wicked.” The evening featured a remarkable performance of original student work, showcasing the incredible talent of students from across New York. LIHSA’s very own Julie Ricotta from Lindenhurst captivated the audience with a show-stopping rendition of “I’m Gonna Get Me A Little Something Something,” leaving everyone in awe.

This conference not only provided LIHSA students with a chance to hone their craft but also allowed them to connect with other aspiring artists. We are incredibly proud of our students for their dedication and enthusiasm as they immersed themselves in classes, performances, and fun, making the most of this unforgettable experience!
