Our Own Principal Helped Produce a Grammy-Nominated Album!
LIHSA Principal Laura Vega, hit the red carpet last week at the Grammy Awards. She is a producer on an album that was nominated for a 2025 Grammy in the Best Latin Jazz Album category. The album entitled, As I Travel, is an autobiographical album that shares the immigration story of her husband, jazz pianist, composer and The Juilliard School professor Donald Vega, from Nicaragua to the United States many years ago.
The couple jetted out to Los Angeles last weekend to attend the 67th Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 2, 2025 in Los Angeles, CA. They may not have won the top honor that night, but they are top winners in our eyes (and ears)! Be sure to check out As I Travel on all streaming platforms.
Laura Vega shared this message with the LIHSA community on social media upon her return:
Thank you all for your encouragement this past weekend! While we did not win a Grammy this year, we did have an incredible time at the Awards!
I had the opportunity to network with artists, sound engineers, and producers from all genres and walks of life, each bringing their unique artistry and passion to the room. The atmosphere at every event was electric with creativity.
It was a powerful reminder that music is not just sound—it’s an expression of our individual journeys, capable of uplifting, moving, and transforming us beyond the limits of language. We attended recording academy parties, the Nominee Reception and Gala, walked the red carpet, and, of course, attended the Awards Ceremony. It was incredibly unifying to witness artists coming together in a collaborative and inviting space, celebrating one another’s artistry and the boundless possibilities that music creates.
It was also a wonderful reminder that, beyond the 20+ pop stars of today, there are thousands upon thousands of other music creators in the industry, leaving their mark on society, and positively impacting the world around us with the work they do. I look forward to bringing that message back to our LIHSA students and continuing to work on creative projects like this for years to come.
