Outstanding Senior Kira Martino

Meet Kira Martino: Dancing into the Future with Confidence and Heart
At LIHSA, students often leave with more than just technical skills—they build connections, gain insight into their industries, and embrace the true meaning of self-expression. For Kira Martino, a dance student from the Bellmore-Merrick School District, LIHSA has provided the perfect stage to grow, both as a dancer and as an individual.

Kira chose to attend the Long Island High School for the Arts because of its reputation for fostering a positive, supportive environment. She’s quick to point out the importance of the community at LIHSA, noting how being surrounded by driven and talented people has been a motivation. “Being in such a positive environment makes you want to work harder and be better,” she explains. For Kira, she’s also found inspiration in the guest artists and choreographers who bring their expertise to the school.

As graduation approaches, Kira shares that she’s learned a great deal not only about dance but about the professional world as well. These experiences have helped her get a glimpse of what life in a professional dance company might look like. Kira has also gained a deeper appreciation for the history of the art form, an understanding that will guide her future pursuits.

As for what’s next? Kira has big plans. After graduating high school, she hopes to continue her dance career while also pursuing a degree in radiology. “I want to share my dance with future generations, while also exploring other interests in the medical field,” she says.

Kira recently committed to St. John’s University where she will be a member of their dance team!

Kira’s advice for future LIHSA students? “Always be yourself. At LIHSA, everyone is accepted and included. Don’t be afraid to try new things and push yourself—you’ll only become better from it.”

We can’t wait to see all that she accomplishes in the future! Best of luck, Kira!
