Sara Nearenberg: Scholar Artist in Theatre

Sara Nearenberg, a senior from Locust Valley High School, has been named a recipient of the prestigious Scholar Artist Award in Theatre by the Long Island Arts Alliance this school year. This award celebrates not only Sara’s exceptional talent in theatre and her academic accomplishments, but it distinguishes her as one of Long Island’s most promising young artists.

Sara’s love for theatre began at a young age, and she has spent much of her high school career immersed in the arts. She is currently studying Musical Theatre at the LIHSA, where she has thrived under the guidance of her dedicated instructors, Chris Brick, Kimberly Larkin, and Natalie L’Etoile. At LIHSA, Sara has had the opportunity to work on a wide range of performances, including Stage The Change, Radio City, and Tommy. “My experience at LIHSA has been enlightening,” Sara reflected. “I’ve been surrounded by people who love the arts as much as I do, and it’s been incredible to work on building myself as an artist, not just focusing on one project at a time.”

This award represents years of dedication for Sara. “It’s such an honor to be recognized for all the hard work and passion I’ve put into the arts,” she says. “This award makes me feel seen and heard, not just for my theatre work, but for all the academic and extracurricular activities that make up who I am.”

Sara thanks her private music teachers, Nick Mondello and Catherine Lau, as well as her school music instructors, Vincent Guerra, Lisa Conti, and Brianna Brickman for their artistic support. “They’ve always been there for me, offering wisdom, guidance, and encouragement,” she shares. Her teachers have been a tremendous influence and while is eager to pursue a career in musical theatre after graduating in June, Broadway isn’t her only aspiration. “In ten years, I hope to be performing professionally and also teaching others who share my passion for the arts,” she says.

Sara Nearenberg’s dedication, and talent are sure to leave a lasting mark on the world of theatre and arts education. This Scholar Artist Award is just the start of an incredible career.
